Maitri is a Buddhist term for the attitude of loving-kindness and compassion, or the wish for the well being of all, which it is essential to cultivate in yourself and share. In healing contexts, it is a good idea to see your client as happy, healthy, and whole--your intentions, your approach, matters, and can be felt. When I became a massage therapist I knew that people cannot really hide from each other, and this is especially true in disciplines of feeling--like massage. So I knew that being a good practitioner was a responsibility that would always require sincerity, devotion, and dedication in all areas of my life. I am grateful for this purpose. Hence the name!
